The owner of Icy Moon is an old and dear friend of mine.  He and his wife are retired US Coast Guard.  Rocky and Diane bought this boat after some damage sustained in a storm in New Orleans many years ago.  He has been slowly making this boat ready for them to sail to Europe.  Rocky's health has suffered in recent years and the project has been stalled for a long while now.  Rocky recently suffered a stroke and asked me to help him.  Today I received a call from his wife.  Rocky was hit by a car and has been hospitalized.  They need the boat gone from their backyard and then they can sell the house so that Rocky can get into some assisted care residence.

Overview

Icy Moon was lightly cruised by her original owner in the Mississippi Gulf of Mexico area from 1990 until 2005.  She suffered damage while at the dock during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  She had damage at the starboard aft hull from the hull to deck area (about 6 inches below the hull to deck joint and 7 feet fore and aft) by the cockipt area. She remained floating in her slip and had some additional abrasive damage to her deck area.

She's got some crazing on the house to side area of the cabin on port side, and the deck has some areas of what appears to be light gelcoat/surface damage.

This fiberglass work on the hull was completed shortly after the damage occurred.  Hull was painted flag blue awlgrip in 2010 and the original hull damage is virtually impossible to see.

Her current owners, both retired US Coast Guard officers acquired her with plans to renovate her and cruise.  She was trucked from Mississippi to Bradenton Florida and has not been launched since her move to Florida 10-12 years ago.  The owners have worked to refit her but health issues have intervened and this project cannot be completed by them.  I've personally known them for over 20 years and they are good folks and experienced mariners.

The bones appear good on Icy Moon and this listing will attempt to describe the accurate condition of the vessel and the work that needs to be done in order to complete her.

The mast and boom appear good, with folding mast steps mounted reaching to the top of the mast.  The owners were aware of IP chainplate concerns and had new chainplates made and installed--except for the chainplate at the bow which was inspected and showed no signs of corrosion.

All new chainplates (port/starboard/backstays) are 316 stainless steel and the good news is that the chainplates port and starboard have been externally mounted on a beefed up area of the hull exterior.  This means that future corrosion will be more difficult without the cross bar weld of the fourth steel bar as the original design utilized, Inspection of the chainplates mounted to the exterior of the hull are now a cinch.

New standing rigging stainless steel wire was made and has never been installed.

Stanchions and lifelines with heavy duty fittings have all been replaced and installed.

The wood exterior handholds need varnishing and remounting.

In anticipation of extended cruising the fuel tank capacity has been dramatically increased and is currently able to carry 108 USG (28 original and 80 additiional US gallons added).  Fuel, water (80 USG) and holding tanks are all empty so I'd anticipate no issues with old fluids/fuels in the system.

There is a "new" in late 2000's water make installed (12 volt) and it has never been used or commissioned.

Yanmar Fresh Water cooled diesel engine with only 149 original hours.  These hours were from 1990 to 2005 and represent the original owner's light use of engine.

The three fuel injectors have been removed and three new injectors are on board and require installation.  

Racor fuel system is the "boss" type system which features two separate Racor systems with a gate valve so that if one fuel filter were to clog, just switch the valve to the second filter and continue running while the original filter-now offline- can have the filter removed and replaced.

There are no batteries aboard and these need to be installed by a new owner.  

Electronics are virtually non existent, except for an older Raymarine wheel autopilot with condition unknown.

There is a nice compass at the helm.

The legendary Island Packet rack and pinion steering is easily inspected and "new" stops have been installed.

The original running rigging is included but appears to be in poor condition and should be replaced.

There is no dodger or bimini.

There is a nice stainless steel dinghy davit system and with the addition of a stabilizer bar or two, solar panels could easily be installed.

There is an older wind generator included--condition unknown.

There is a "new" late 2000's roller furler for the genoa that has never been installed.

Sails,  there is one older (original?) main sail in fair condition with missing battens.  There is no jib and no staysail.  Best to plan to budget for 3 new sails.

Floor in salon;  the floor was removed to do the tank expansion/modifications.  A sheet of new teak and holly sole on plywood backing is included in the sale of the vessel and is large enough to fit out the new salon floor.

The boat needs a good cleaning inside and out, and some of the interior wood needs attention/carpentry and varnish.

There are numerous spare parts in plastic bins that were purchased for the refit and not installed that will convey with the boat.

A new (late 2000's) electric Lofranz Cobra windless is included.

A bruce style and spade style anchor are included with what is believed to be all chain rode. 

A high intensity bow light mounted below the bowsprit was installed to assist with night anchoring.

12 V DC Refrigeration is included and was reported working when last in the water.

There is a 120 V AC Air Conditioning system and was reported working when last in the water.

The marine head was replaced in late 2000's and features a whale manual waste discharge pump allowing pumping overboard (where permitted by law) or to the holding tank (with Y valve) and deck pumpout.

Deck fills (waste, water and fuel) have all been replaced.

There is a very unique system for the shower to conserve water as the initial supply of cold water runs through the hose to the shower head until the warm water enters.  Ask me about it when you call me.  It's very clever!

The Walker Bay dinghy and outboard motor do not convey in this sale.

So this is a project boat and is priced to reflect the work needed.  The IP 32's of this vintage typically sell from about $65-90K and many of these will not have new standing rigging and chainplates or low engine hours and often have older 90's vintage electronics.
