What is your vision? This Hans Christian 48 can do it all. Circumnavigating, wintering in the Caribbean, exploring the U.S. East Coast, Bahamas, Bermuda, or living aboard, this boat will exceed all your expectations. She will fulfill your visions and carry you with comfort and safety wherever your sailing dreams lead you. Design matters.
With the Hans Christian 48, naval architect Scott Sprague has achieved the perfect blend of speed, strength, and beauty. The Hans Christian 48 can put to sea in all weather. In 40 knots, full sails and dry on deck, this boat moves easily with reliability and comfort. The design is not burdensome with too much beam. Her entry is fine with usable space below comparable to much larger designs.
But indeed, Hans Christians are expensive to build. This 48 is no exception. Sweeping, twisting, converging curves and intricate detail, matched Burmese teak, long waterlines, length on deck, and the finest joiner work are all factors that make the boat beautiful and unique.
Every contemporary material and technique relevant to strength and low maintenance is used. Sandwich cores are fine and prudent in some applications, but are not used on the Hans Christian 48. The hull is all fiberglass. Electric wiring is accessible and coded utilizing A.B.Y. C. standards. Tankage is integrated and accessible. Below the waterline, a special epoxy is used to inhibit osmosis. Clear vertical Burmese teak decks without plugs enormously increase the life of decks. Auxiliary power is provided by Yanmar, a commercial fishing boat engine that is designed to run forever with minimal maintenance, a true marine engine.
Hardware is 316 or 304 marine stainless with structural rigging items such as chainplates oversized. Mast, rigging, and turnbuckles are all U.S. manufactured with mast diameter in excess of racing standards to accommodate the design parameters of the yacht while offshore. This boat, LEGACY, hull number 19, lives up to her name. The boat was purchased new on December 13, 1990 and commissioned in Annapolis. She is one of 23 Hans Christian yachts crafted in Taiwan where the highest quality yachts were built. No other yacht design has lured the owner away from LEGACY. She has had only one owner since 1990. This boat has been a cherished member of the owner?s family for thirty-three years. And, LEGACY has been treated like a family member with care and affection. Engagements, honeymoons, vacations, children, LEGACY has been there through it all. Never neglected, she has been looked after year after year.
Her loving care includes a complete refit in 2006. Highlights of the refit include new stainless steel shaft, rebuilt rudder, new fuel system, new exhaust system, new heat exchanger, and new water heater. Her 120 HP engine is professionally maintained. All of her maintenance receipts and records will convey. So be forewarned, the seller is seeking a quality buyer to adopt this family member. Price is in the background. If you are a discerning buyer and a worthy individual, call for an appointment to see this one-of-a-kind beautiful boat.

Detailed DescriptionsAccommodationsThe teak interior is spacious, elegant, and cozy. The interior is solid teak with rounded trim angles and a teak headliner. The only veneer is behind the bookshelf in the main salon. Plenty of ventilation is provided by hatches, fans, and small, thick glass bronze ports that are perfect for ocean sailing. The port seals are in excellent condition. The boat is dry and comfortable. From the companionway steps, the spacious galley is to port and designed with offshore cooking in mind. Opposite the galley is a dinette that can seat a party of 10. Forward of the galley is the Main Salon with a U-shaped settee to port with a bookshelf behind. There is a straight settee to starboard. Of course, ample storage is provided under and behind the settees. A mirror on the bulkhead makes the enormous Main Salon appear even more spacious. Adjacent and to port of the Main Salon finds the head. The head is equipped with an ocean head, a tiled shower with teak and holly seat and sink with Italian marble countertop. Storage cabinets are across from the head on the starboard side. The forward cabin has a queen size berth and plenty of storage. A hatch, portals, and fans provide ventilation in both the forward and aft cabins. To starboard and aft of the dinette find the very large navigation station and a cedar lined hanging locker adjacent and aft. The aft cabin has a queen sized berth and private head. The master head has Italian marble countertops and a tile shower with a teak and holly seat. Throughout the boat, drawers are secured with finger latches to keep them secure in any seaway.
